8. Sustaining action and creating structural change around leadership What is your community’s plan for maintaining a strong community leadership system? How can your community sustain the changes it has already made in its leadership? What structural changes have been made in how the community does its work/makes decisions? What structural changes have been made so that your community leadership sustains partnerships with others?

One change that has been made is that 7-8 of us are now members of the community club in Newell. We have been partnering with them on various events. As the Horizons grant nears the end we plan to be a more active part of the community club.

I think the people in horizons getting involved with the community club helps to bring the community network together to accomplish horizon’s goals as well as ongoing community efforts. Horizons has brought community leaders from many different sources together and now the knowledge of that network is taken to a community organization and melded together with established community leaders. In many ways it is a melding of generations which can be difficult to accomplish. I believe we have begun to accomplish that and will continue to do that here in Newell.
