Community Club Meeting
The Newell Community Club will meet Thursday, August 7 at the NVN Center at 6:30 p.m. Plans are underway for the annual Labor Day Celebration. Everyone is invited.

June 30th at 7pm will be a Special Newell City Council meeting to address budget issues.
One of Newell Horizons goals was recently completed. In keeping with town colors a maroon and white park shelter has been constructed in the north park. A formal dedication ceremony will be held at the shelter on July 12 at 10am, the public is welcome to attend. A program is planned.
Saturday, July 12th has been set as the Newell Clean up day, the rubble site will be free of charge for most items. It is strongly advised that folks check with the city for items that are accepted before driving out. Tires will be accepted for a fee.
Butte County has been awarded with a grant to help provide education, support and awareness of the health risks associated with tobacco useage. Give your input and help brainstorm ideas to spend the funds and maybe volunteer a little time to the cause. Free lunch/breakfast will be served at TJ’s on July 9th at 10am for those who attend.

Attend the Celebration on Friday, July 11 from 11:30-1pm. Free lunch for all at the school lunch room, as well as crafts and activities.
Are the kids whining the familiar sing song “I’m soooo bored” already? Send them to the July Summer Enrichment and Recreational Summer program sponsored by HOPE. Free of charge the students will have “Fun in the Sun” and enjoy full day field trips on Wednesdays. Free breakfast and lunch are available for k-12 students each day regardless if they attend the program. The Summer program begins on July 7 and runs through the 25th. In 2005, 85,000 persons over the age of 65 were victims of non-fatal violent crime. Crime victims over the age of 65 lost a total of $1.3 billion due to personal and property crimes in 2005. Many of these crimes were committed by family members or people who were known by the victim. What can we do to help keep our elder population and ourselves safe?

Sponsored by five area churches the Seven Project mixes a whole lot of fun along with a gospel message.
Thanks to the hard work of a few Horizons members, Mrs. Melanie Williamson’s exploratory class and Mr. Wince’s gym class, part of the Horizons Stratgic Plan was accomplished Friday morning. Three new trees were planted next to the gym addition and one tree was replaced in front of the high school. Three of the trees were sponsored by donors and one was bought by the Horizons group. Thanks so much all who made this happen!

With 4 seats on the Newell School Board up for Election on June 3rd during the County Primary, the forum to be held this evening at City Hall is a great chance to hear what each of the 9 candidates have to offer!

On Thursday, May 1st the NVN CATS will be holding an open house at their new building in Nisland, which is also the former Nisland Town Hall.
Check out their new services, which includes a clothing store!
CATS provides commodities, senior care packs, the Meals on Wheels program and many others!

It’s that time of month again! Please join us Saturday, April 19th for our monthly Horizons meeting at 10:00 a.m. at TJ’s cafe. Let’s finish this grant out strong, only a couple of months left!
The Newell Public Library will hold an Open House on Thursday, April 17th, from 1:30-4:00. A raffle drawing will be held. Raffle tickets may be purchased from any Library Board member or at the Library. Refreshments will be served.
